Solvay Public Library Today

Today, the Solvay Public Library continues in its tradition of being a center of the community and in playing an important role in its development. The library affords the community opportunities for cultural, artistic and educational activities for the children and adults of the area it serves.

In 2002, the Solvay Public Library began a Centennial Building project to address handicap accessibility, lack of space, and drainage problems. With support from a community fund drive, local, state, corporate and private giving, the Trustees hope to have a larger parking lot, addition, and elevator by the library's 100th birthday in 2005.

The Solvay Public Library is one of 20 independent libraries that are members of the Onondaga County Public Library system. Also part of the system are the Central County Library and eight Syracuse branch libraries. Library card holders can borrow materials from any library in the system and return them to any library. The Solvay Public Library contains over 30,000 books and 75 periodical subscriptions searchable on the Onondaga County Public Library online card catalog.
